25-year-old Pradeep would join the rest of the squad on Monday, as he comes back from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and Zimbabwe.
"He has been part of the Sri Lanka A team that took part in the one-day tri-series in Zimbabwe and having played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the recent test series we thought he will be the most likely replacement," said de Mel.
Prior to the tri-series, Pradeep played against Pakistan in 2 Tests and grabbed only 1 wicket. He was dropped from the team for the third test after a disappointing performance in Colombo,where he failed to take a wicket.
Pradeep who has played 3 Tests, all against Pakistan, is yet to make his One Day International debut.
Fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara, who has played 123 ODIs and taken 132 wickets, was ruled out of the remainder of the 5-match series due to a groin injury sustained while attempting to catch http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 off Thisara Perera’s bowling, in the first match at
Hambantota.
"Nuwan is out of the series. He has got a groin injury. We cannot get a scan here [in Hambantota]. Once we get back to Colombo, we will get a scan done and see the extent of the injury and how long he will have to be out," said Jayawardene.
Kulasekara, who celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday, had a relatively successful series against Pakistan recently. He was the highest wicket taker with 4 wickets in the 2-match T20 Series. With 7 wickets off 5 matches, he was the second higest wicket
taker, behind Thisara Perera, who grabbed 11. He didn’t fare badly in the test series either, taking 8 wickets in 3 matches.
India leads the 5-match series 1-0, and the second match of the series will be played at the same venue on June 24.
