The Women’s Doubles team of India Pradnya Gadre-Prajakta Sawant ensured their presence in pre quarter-finals of Badminton Asia Championships after beating Kai Hsin Chiang-Pei Ling Tsai in first round on April 18, 2012.
Partnership of Pradnya-Prajakta dominated most part of the 37-minute encounter and bagged first victory for their country in the Women’s Doubles event with final figures of 21-13, 14-21 and 21-16.
Indians will now meet Thai duo Duanganong Aroonkesorn-Kunchala Voravichitchaikul in pre quarter-final round of the event.
Twosome of Pradnya and Prajakta set the foundation of their victory straight away in first set. They unleashed their badminton skills and established an unassailable lead in first half of the game with a 7-0 score.
In later half of the set, the Indians made some mistakes which allowed their opponents to narrow the gap by putting a decent margin of 12-16 on the scoreboard. However, they woke up in time and finished opening set with a 21-13 score in their favour.
However, this first set loss did not harm the Taipei duo much as they bounced back and brought life back into the match in following game.
The duo of Kai Hsin-Pei Ling showed some strong character in this nerve-racking tussle as they matched their rivals’ skills by staying close with a 9-9 score position before the interval.
After the break, Taipei ladies accelerated their pace and left their challengers far behind on scoreboard. They first got in a commanding position with a 15-11 score and then concluded the game with a favourable margin of 21-14.
The 1-1 match score position made the third set consequential and spectators were expecting fireworks in the decider.
Indian campaigners pushed their rivals on to the back foot with some attacking shots in the beginning and placed a notable lead of 6-1 but the opposing couple of Kai Hsin-Pei Ling levelled the lead at 10-10 until the mid-game break.
The one-minute break worked in favour of the Women’s Doubles experts Pradnya and Prajakta as they entered in court with high shoulders and sealed the victory with a decisive total of 21-16 in the score log.
