Prakash Jolly enters in main round of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG – Badminton News
It was smooth ride to main draw of Men’s Singles event for Prakash Jolly as he remained invincible in his second qualifying round match of Shaheed Dr. K.L. Garg -Syed Modi International India GPG on December 18, 2012.
The spirited Indian youngster trounced his compatriot shuttler Manish Gupta in a crucial tussle which concluded with decisive figures of 21-9 and 21-16.
Prakash, who was underrated earlier in this Grand Prix Gold tournament, alarmed all the contestants with this straight-set victory and now he is in high spirit to resume his campaign in the main draw.
In the final encounter of qualifying round, he made his intentions clear straight away in the beginning as Manish could not withstand his intensive attack and remained grounded in the establishing rallies.
Prakash bagged many valuable points at steady pace and established an unassailable lead with 8-2 margin.
This six-point difference proved too much for the opposing shuttler as could not lift this burden and knelt down tamely.
Manish, who was top seeded player of this round, failed to come out of his competitor’s influence and finished first half of the set with an indomitable total of 11.
Latter part of the game did not bring anything for him as it completely belonged to Prakash who maintained a convincing lead of twelve points and won this set.
He mounted pressure with 14-9 in third quarter of the set and then magnified the impact by putting 21-9 score on the board.
The following segment of this showdown kept the audience intact just until the half time as it proved a dead contest after the one-minute break.
Initially, Prakash performed tremendously well and gained an early advantage but he could not go with same flow in next couple of rallies and allowed his challenger to bounce back.
Manish made a swift progress on the points table and caught his rival just before the interval. Both contenders stood toe-to-toe until 12-12 but then Prakash struck hard and tipped the scale in his favour.
He did not lose focus at any stage of the game and reserved a spot in main round with a staggering knock of 21-16.
