Prakash Padukone confirms his support for North Zone Badminton Academy in Mohali
It was certainly a day of joy for badminton lovers in northern region of India as badminton legend Prakash Padukone confirmed his support for North Zone Badminton Academy (NZBA), which will be functional from April 2, 2012.
The opening of this academy at Shivalik Public School, Mohali will really reduce the trouble of northern region players who earlier had to travel all the way to Bangalore for the basic training.
The former All England Champion Prakash Padukone, who runs an academy in Bangalore, was positive about the opening of this academy and he ensured to lend his services for NZBA.
He said, “We would be happy to share our experience with NZBA by inviting selected players to train with us in Bangalore and also by sending our coaches over there for exchange of ideas and coaching techniques.”
The north part of India was once respected as the most fertile region for badminton as it produced few talented players like Syed Modi, Prakash Nath, Devinder Ahuja, Davinder Mohan, and Dinesh Khanna in the past but later the young talent could not be nourished
due to lack of coaching and training institutes.
Probably this was the motivational force for Tejinder Bedi who conceived this mega project last year and requested Prakash Padukone to back him for badminton future of India.
Bedi said, “Punjab did not have any player in the top 10. So I wrote to Prakash Padukone regarding the opening of a badminton academy. Players from as far as Jammu and Kashmir go to Bangalore for training.”
Now the academy, working with collaboration of Prakash Padukone Academy, will provide a golden chance to young shuttlers of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir to elevate their skills under the supervision of former state champion Ashish
Sharma.
The North Zone Badminton Academy will nurture the Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 shuttlers and the best talent will be sent to Bangalore to have joint training sessions with best Indian shuttlers in Prakash Padukone Academy.
Meanwhile, the NZBA officials have showed their intentions to invite Akshit Mahajan, Saurav Kapoor, Oscar Bansal and Nisha to equip these youngsters with modern skills of the game.
