Pramac Racing rider Randy de Puniet finishes eighth at Indianapolis Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Pramac Racing rider Randy de Puniet came eighth in the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.
Meanwhile his teammate Loris Capirossi was forced to retire due to a front tyre issue in the 16th lap.
The Frenchman started the race from 12th seat on the grid. Like other riders Puniet was also facing issue with front tyre and the greasy tarmac increased the problem. However he still managed to pick a moderate start for top ten
position fight.
Randy de Puniet said, “I'm happy, this is my best race of the season! I had a poor start when Loris touched me and I lost at least three positions, otherwise I could stay with the group and probably I could have fought for a better position.”
Although he lost positions after contacting teammate Capirossi he is pleased with the race pace that he sustained. It was an achievement for the French rider to ride with a steady pace until the last lap.
Puniet was able to make passes in the second half of the race with the help of his race pace, even though his front tyre was wearing out but still he managed to climb in top ten positions.
After bad start to the 2011 MotoGP season, Puniet is pleased with his results and feels it was well deserved by the team. He looks forward to continue his hard work for Misano round.
Capirossi said, “From the fourth lap the bike didn’t respond as I wanted. I kept losing the front tire and risked falling at every turn. At one point I could no longer manage the bike and I was forced to retire. When I returned to the box we noticed that
the front tire was really worn.”
The Italian rider regretted the situation that caused him to run out of the race. Earlier in the race weekend at Indy there was no incident of severe tyre wear out.
Capirossi is now concentrating to recover his lost points at the San Marino event. Being his home event he aims to display a good show for his home crowd.
