Pramac Racing rider Randy de Puniet in severe pain after QP crash at Laguna Seca – MotoGP news
Pramac Racing rider Randy de Puniet sustained fractures in his vertebrae and neck from a severe crash in the qualifying practice session at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the 2011 MotoGP US Grand Prix.
Since his crash, he was ruled out from the US Grand Prix. Later he suffered from extreme pain due to an undiagnosed problem in his pelvis area.
The French rider was disappointed from the incident occurred during the QP session. His unfortunate 2011 MotoGP season has hampered him to lose points in six rounds out of ten events so far. With hard work, the French rider was having a good race weekend
until the crash on Saturday.
Randy de Puniet said, “I thought it was my mistake but I have checked the telemetry with my engineer and I did the same thing as all the other times. In Sachsenring many riders crashed in their first lap out, I guess this time was my turn.”
The Pramac rider was looking forward to ride at the warm up session but his pain did not allow him to get aboard his Desmosedici.
Puniet further said, “I wanted to believe until the last moment that I was able to race, but [on Saturday] night the pain was unbearable and I had to call the doctors from the mobile clinic to ease it. Contrary to what we thought, the pelvis seems to be
the biggest problem: my hip is swollen like a football, and I can barely even walk.”
Puniet will go through further medical checkups in Los Angeles that will determine the damage at the pelvic bone.
Puniet aims to recover from the injuries by the end of the short summer break. Earlier in the season, he lost a lot of points and holds 17th position with 15 points in the 2011 MotoGP world championship.
He aims to be back on track for the second half of the season. Pramac’s other rider Loris Capirossi was also injured and merely made his return to racing after two rounds of absence.
