Pramac Racing rider Randy de Puniet manages 14th place at Italian GP – MotoGP news
Pramac Racing rider Randy de Puniet managed a 14th place finish for his team at the recently held Italian Grand Prix in Mugello.
This time, Puniet avoided any crash to put an end to his ‘did not finish’ routine in the 2011 MotoGP season. Previously he has retired from five out of eight events in the ongoing season. The French rider has a best finish at tenth place in the season so
far.
Pramac Racing team rider, Randy de Puniet said, “I think there is little to say today. Yet another bad race, though this time I managed to cross the finish line. I found several problems, especially when cornering and braking. I couldn't go fast because
when I tried to accelerate, I lost the front.”
Puniet described his helpless situation in the race and said, “I could go faster than the group that I had ahead of me, but I wasn't able to pass anyone. The rear tire is virtually destroyed. I'm disappointed, and I need to get some positive results this
season.”
Though he completed the race but he was out of best form on his satellite Ducati. Puniet was facing tyre problems which hindered him to move ahead of his rivals. He claimed that he could have attempted to overtake some riders but the tyres were not in a
condition to be pushed hard and made trouble while braking.
Many other riders also faced the tyre problem at the Mugello circuit. Race leader Casey Stoner also suffered from the same issue. The wearing out of tyres was quicker than usual because of the high temperatures and the new asphalt layer of the circuit.
Most of the riders chose to use hard compound slicks as the weather was dry and warm. It caused the tyres to warm up earlier than expected. A similar problem was seen with Stoner as his tyres became warm when he recorded the fastest lap time of the track.
Later when his tyres were overheated, he was found struggling to control his massive tyre spin.
After the race day, Puniet will be participating in the official MotoGP test at Mugello. He will run his Desmosedici to tune it for better results. Let’s see how he fares in it.
