Pramac Racing’s Loris Capirossi will carry no. 58 during the Valencia GP – MotoGP news
Pramac Racing rider Loris Capirossi will honour Marco Simoncelli of Honda Gresini by carrying his no. 58 during the Valencia GP race weekend.
Capirossi said, “The situation is strange for everyone. We are all here and we try never to forget Marco – this is really important because he is part of our life and always tried to do his best.”
The Italian satellite Ducati rider races with no. 65. Capirossi will pay tribute in his MotoGP career’s last race to his compatriot.
The Italian rider added, “For this I want to keep his honour and I want to use his number 58 on my bike for this race. I really hope he is happy about that and that I can achieve the same result as he could.”
Capirossi has been through a tough season in 2011. He suffered from many injuries, which forced him to miss 5 races in the season.
His best finish in 2011 has been two ninth positions at Catalunya and Phillip Island. From his 12 races that he participated in, he left five races with ‘did not finish’ statuses.
His major injury was when he fractured his collarbone during the TT Assen event. Further in the season he had some crashes that again dislocated his same shoulder which left him sidelined for couple of races.
During his last race, he aims to deliver his best performance that he will dedicate to his compatriot Simoncelli and sign off with a good memory.
He claimed that he is content with his career and performance that he continued for about 22 seasons. Currently there are a number of strong riders in the MotoGP so he looks forward to do something else.
He further added that every rider has a point which feels an end to one’s career. Unfortunately, some are forced to end due to irreparable injuries and some die.
Therefore, it is a good time to end racing, he said. After retirement, he looks to spend time with his family and feels to experience something new.
Currently, he is placed at the 17th place in the world championship points table. His French teammate is 16th in the season rankings.
