Pramac Racing’s Randy de Puniet hopes for WSBK after tough time in 2011 MotoGP season – MotoGP news
Pramac Racing rider Randy de Puniet is looking forward to several options including the World Superbike Championship after facing a hard time in the 2011 MotoGP season.
After five ‘did not finish’ statuses and missing the Laguna Seca event, he is ranked at 17th position in the 2011 MotoGP world championship points table.
Randy de Puniet said, “There is a place at LCR if it does not happen with Dovizioso and Bradl, a place for Tech 3 if Colin (Edwards) leaves, and then there is Pramac and maybe Gresini.”
The French MotoGP rider has shared his future plans on his personal blog. Honda might shift its Repsol rider Andrea Dovizioso to the LCR Honda team, if not, then de Puniet has a chance to get a position.
On the other side, Monster Yamaha Tech3 team is also planning to pick a new rider after Colin Edwards ends his contract with the Tech3 squad by 2011. If Edwards leaves an empty space it can be availed by the Frenchman.
Meanwhile, Eugene Laverty from WSBK and some other riders are also being considered by Tech3 boss, Herve Poncharal.
De Puniet said, “So it's either one of these options, and then Superbike if we can find a competitive bike. If I go to SBK, it is to be in front, not to be eighth or ninth. Otherwise, it will be home waiting to be called as a replacement. What is crystal
clear is that will not ride a CRT bike or in Moto2.”
The French rider is still optimistic about his future in MotoGP class, but if it does not happen he plans to hit WSBK for 2012. Puniet is confirming that he will not race for Moto2 class and event will not accept a seat at ‘Claiming Rules Team.’
CRTs are the new class of competitors allowed in MotoGP from 2012 season. The non-sole manufacturer teams will enjoy many relaxations as compared to present contenders.
Puniet’s teammate Loris Capirossi is also not having a safe journey in 2011 MotoGP season. The Italian has crashed out of many races and sits 16th in points table.
