The Italian coach has been handed a selection headache ahead of the European Championships in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983, but remains hopeful that things will fall in place.
The Nazionale had an amazing progress through to the group stages of Euro 2012, but were dealt a blow when two key members had to undergo surgery. Prandelli’s preferred
strike force constituted of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Cassano-c6302 but they are recovering from different surgeries at the moment in time.
Antonio Cassano underwent a heart surgery after he suffered from a mini stroke in Roma’s flight back from Milan. Giuseppe Rossi tore his cruciate ligaments due to which
he had to undergo a surgery to his knee. Rossi is expected to recover in April whereas Cassano will recover a bit later.
Given this predicament, there was large consensus that Balotelli should be given the opportunity to start in attack. However, there have been issues between Balotelli and
Prandelli due to the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan player’s temperament.
Giving thoughts on the prospects of Balotelli entering the Italian setup, Prandelli stated:
“In my mind,
Balotelli is a first team player, but in order for me to keep thinking that way then
Balotelli has to prove his form on the pitch, as well as an ability to control his personality. We have a code of ethics in the squad – rules have to be observed and
behaviour respected. Omitting him from the squad is one way of imposing discipline.”
Prandelli opined that he followed a certain methodology of operating his team and he ran his team like a family. Balotelli was dropped out of the team that played the friendly
against USA. The reason he was dropped was due to his misconduct in the match against Tottenham, where he apparently stamped on Scott Parker’s head.
About his methodology of operating the Italian team, he commented:
“I only know one way of taking a squad forward and that is running it like a family. You have to have rules, otherwise it all becomes difficult. I think of all the players
as sons.”
The Azzurri coach was hopeful on the recovery of his preferred striking duo and is wishing that they are available for selection comes May.
