Prankcalling?

someone prankcalled me

and i want to press charges on them.

can the police find out who it was?

Caller ID helps in this case, but if you don't have that, then *69, or calling you phone company should be able to help.  

You shouldn't be charged anything...this is an OV crime (ordinance violation), and something the police are required to respond to should it be reported.  The only charge you'll get is when you have to pay your taxes!

Something very similar happend to me i was getting prank calls and nasty messages from a bf's ex and her sister... Eventually i went to the police station with the messages and told the cops that i told them to stop calling.. the police call the number and told them if ANYONE called from that number again i was advised to go to the courthouse and file a suit for harrasing phone calls....

Grow thicker skin

Get caller ID

Don't answer if you don't recognize the number/name

If they leave dirty messages, turn your machine off.

Much easier than trying to find out who they are and dragging them into court.

Why would you want to waste so much time and money when they won't prosecute them anyway?  As far as pranks go, prank calling is pretty harmless (not that I'm advocating it).  They could have TP'd your house, damaged your car, stolen your credit, cut off your electricity.  Try to find forgiveness in your heart.  Get caller id and screen your calls from now on.

*69 will do the trick But it will cost you a dollar

You just press it after the call and the operator will give you the number therefore you can call them back or give it to the police.
