Prannoy gets pale in front of Yong Zhao in India Open qualification round – Badminton News
Men’s Singles campaigner Prannoy H.S of India crashed out of Yonex Sunrise India Open after losing to Yong Zhao Ashton Chen of Singapore in qualifying round on April 24, 2012.
Young Prannoy put a great show of skills and kept his challenger away from sealing the victory for one hour and 12 minutes but final figures of 21-14, 24-26 and 19-21 after three sets forced him to bid farewell to the home event.
The Indian lad had a perfect start as he outclassed his opponent in very first set of the match. He got into commanding position just after few minutes and maintained his upper hand over Singaporean shuttler.
Prannoy played fast badminton in first half of the set to gain a significant seven-point advantage and managed to put a decent figure 10-3 on the board.
In later part of the game, he remained far ahead of his competitor by adding four consecutive points in his total to reach at 16-9 score position but his rival narrowed the gap with some quick rallies.
However, the Indian blew away his opponent by grabbing last five points in a row to reach at final total of 21-14.
Next game was certainly the best part of the match as both shuttlers displayed supreme skills to achieve their respective goals.
None of them could establish an unassailable lead and made the spectators gasp by turning this contest into a nerve-racking tussle.
Though, 19-year-old Prannoy had a slight edge of one point until the interval but he lost his grip in the next half of the set as his rival dictated him in most part of the game.
The Singaporean campaigner had to go all the way through four game points to level the lead but he finally managed to accomplish the task by winning second set with a tight yet decisive margin of 26-24.
In third and last game, both contenders remained close until mid-game break with 11-10 total but Yong Zhao struck hard in last stages of the game. He earned four consecutive points right after the interval which helped him to emerge as victor with 21-19
score on the board.
