Great way to improve your game.  You can either just keep shooting racks or set up shots you want to improve on.

many moon's ago....i was one of those kids in Dave's bar...I'd set a line of balls down the middle of the table.{length wise} and shoot cross side shots.then the other way....all day long..move up to the next ball  = different angle.....get the bank down..straight In's are a gimmie...practice..practice..practice...... luck

I ran a bar for 23 years,and a lot of guys came in & practiced by them selves. they would set up balls for certain shots,many times over.some used to practice making a SPOT shot,& also Trick shots.

I have a table at home and I practice by myself almost everyday. Just play like your playing somebody and it should work out

Grew up with a pool table in the house  and practiced many times all by myself. You still have to call your shot.

Make the most of your practice time alone by performing drills instead of just playing. Too many people just practice shots with no regard to where the cue ball lands. Pool isn't about making shots. It is about using the shot to move the cue ball to a specific part of the table. The bar player will spend an hour practicing bank shots because they look good. A serious player will set up a shot, place a piece of paper on another part of the table and see if he can get the cue ball to land on it. Watch pro tournaments on TV or instructional videos to learn about cue ball control. When you play pool, use your knowledge and skill instead of your ego.

I do shoot by myself quite a lot. Practice makes perfect.

It is tough to practice with others or playing a game because practice means that you work on specific types of shots over and over. You work on the things you don't do well. If you take shots that you aren't good at, then you lose your turn - defeating the purpose of practice in the first place.
