Praveen Kumar ruled out of the World Cup
India’s World Cup preparations were dealt a blow after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Praveen-Kumar-c82600 was ruled out of the mega event with an elbow injury. Medium-pacer Sreesanth will now take his place in the squad for the tournament.
Praveen has been a regular member of the Indian team for the past two years and is known for his accurate swing bowing. He was expected to share the new ball with Zaheer Khan in the World Cup for his team but couldn’t recover in time for the mega event.
The 24-year-old bowler went to South Africa with his team in 2010 for the nation’s last tour ahead of the World Cup, but had to return back to India due to his injury.
The medium-pacer underwent a fitness test yesterday and reports suggested that he would not be a part of the team for the mega event, which starts from 19th February.
This will not be good news for the Indian team as Praveen was also handy with the bat. He had the ability of playing some big shots in the death overs and his batting was effective in subcontinent conditions.
On the other hand, Sreesanth will be a happy man after he was included in the Indian squad as Praveen’s replacement. He has the ability to pick up wickets but can prove to be quite expensive especially on batting friendly wickets.
Sreesanth has been a regular member in the Indian Test team compared to the limited-over formats. He represented his team in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 where he did a good job in the longest version of the game.
He will be looking forward to grab the opportunity with both hands and do well for his country if he gets a chance in the playing-11. It will be difficult for Sreesanth to find his spot in the team as there are some other skilful bowlers in the squad.
It is most likely that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293 and Munaf Patel will be looking forward to supporting the slower bowlers.
India will play their first match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the opening encounter of the 2011 World Cup on 19th February.
