Indian captain MS Dhoni claimed that his team will miss Praveen Kumar in the World Cup, which kicks off on 19th February.
The medium-fast Praveen has been a regular member of the Indian team in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20s for the past two years.
He was to lead the attack with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Khan-c98452 in the mega event, but an elbow injury has restricted the player from featuring in the event. This was a huge blow for India as they don’t have many options in the fast bowling department.
The Indian captain said, “It is very unfortunate that Praveen had to miss the World Cup. He featured consistently in the ODIs for us. He is a street-smart cricketer and we will miss him a lot.”
Dhoni added that such problems do occur in international cricket and the team has to face them like professionals. He also said that the team had suffered injuries to key players like Sachin Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 over the past few
months, but all of them are fit to represent the team in the World Cup.
Sreesanth will replace the injured Praveen Kumar, but the aggressive fast bowler may not feature in many matches. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Nehra-c46293.
However, Sreesanth was optimistic about his chances in the tournament and said he would give 100 percent for his team. Sreesanth is known for his aggression and has the ability to take wickets.
It will be difficult for him though to perform well in good batting conditions. He was a part of the test team, which played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in their home conditions. The bouncy conditions helped Sreesanth and he did well in the series.
This year’s World Cup has followed a lot of criticism by many cricket critics and commentators. The International Cricket Council (ICC) came under fire for not making a perfect schedule.
Injuries have also plagued the build-up to the World Cup. Many teams including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 have been hit by fitness issues of key players. India has just joined the list of affected countries with Kumar being the latest dropout.
