Prayer for Relief lands his fourth in a row after wrapping up the Super Derby at Louisiana Downs
It seems that trainer Bob Baffert’s season long search to find himself a solid 3-year-old ended on 10 September, 2011, when the 3-year-old Jump Star colt, Prayer for Relief, broke on top from the outset and never looked back to win the Grade 2 $500,000 Super
Derby at Louisiana Downs.
The Zayat Stables owned, Prayer for Relief broke well under jockey Rafael Bejarano, and the key to victory was the easy fractions he was allowed to get away with.
Breaking alertly from post number 5, Prayer for Relief took on the field of nine runners, with nobody looking to assert authority over another, the race had pedestrian like splits.
The winning dark bay/brown colt is building up some momentum for his upcoming races, who is now 4 of 4 in as many starts for trainer Bob Baffert.
It was never going to be easy for Prayer for Relief to keep that winning run going in the Super Derby, when he had stiff competition in the shape of Alternation, Awesome Bet and Malibu Glow.
However, Prayer for Relief has come good for Bob Baffert in this season, and has now picked up his second grade 2 win of the year, the first grade 2 win was his previous race.
He lit up the Moutaineer racecourse by winning the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby on 6 August, 2011.
After holding off Populist Politics and Awesome Bet in the stretch to win the Super Derby wire to wire, Prayer for Relief made a strong case for that 3-year-old title.
If he still keeps on winning like he is now, he could be the 3-year-old champion possibly. In his fourth consecutive victory, Prayer for Relief was sent as the 6 to 5 favourite to win the race.
He won the race by 2 ½ lengths over, Awesome Bet and covered the 1 1/8 mile distance in 1 minute and 52.29 seconds.
Starting off the season with a second place finish at Hollywood Park, but was offered to run in an Allowance race and he never looked back from there, reeled in consecutive stakes, and is now 5 wins with a lone second place finish in eight starts now with
earnings of $965,500.
