Question:

Praying and the workplace?

Busy or not busy in the workplace, do you find time for prayers while at work? Is there a place set up for muslims or others to pray in?

I know where I work, we have a "Prayer Room" and muslim brothers and sisters have placed a small rack with prayer mats and scarves.

There is also a nice Somalian lady that works on my floor who told me that in the Health and Wellness Room, she kept a prayer mat and a few scarves and she uses that because the prayer room downstairs is usually where the brothers pray and it's hard to find space there for herself. So this is where I go to pray as well.

So how is it like in your workplace?

  1. Well, as a non-Muslim, I don't normally pray (I'm Christian, but not devout).  Anyway, for this Ramadan, I decided I would pray in addition to fasting, however, there are many personal obstacles to this (mainly that I don't speak Arabic) but at work it would be impossible.

Officially, anyone could pray if they wanted to, but I work at a law firm and I live in North America.  I won't explain further.

Finally, not being Muslim, even if Muslims were praying here, I couldn't join in, because that would be misleading.  So I make up for it by doing double when I get home.

  2. I work in a hospital so there is a Chapel for prayers, We have our own area with 3 prayer mats and hijabs for the sisters.

I take my lunch break at thuhr time and pray while on my break.

if not I'm still allowed to take 15 min break in the afternoon for prayer. Alhamdullillaah.

  3. Yes I have a praying area at my work...........and I am really thankful for that

  4. I'm the only person here who's muslim.

I go to an empty conference room and do my prayers.

I take off early on fridays when I'm able so I can go to jumaah prayers.

  5. My workplace is very accomodating to myself and other fellow Muslims. We have a confrence room we can pray it. We get to take 15 minute breaks for each salah.

My boss is very tolerant and loves the fact that we pray. Its GREAT.
