im looking to see if i could have a praying mantis for a pet, i have a 5gallon fish tank ( i cant use for fish because i dont have a filter for it) and i could pay for any plants, decorations, food and whatever it needs,

so my question is whether praying mantises live in wisconsin, specificly green bay wisconsin, and how hard would they be to catch and how common? i dont think i ever seen any in urban areas...

and would it be happy in a 5 gallon tank, and so how big do they get on average? and what kind of plants or whatever would i need?

  1. Well, interesting choice.  Praying mantis is primarily found in temperate and tropical locales.  Green Bay is not either.  But a rare pet store, or email might get one for you.  Being highly aggressive, cannabalistic, one of the closest relatives to cockroaches and termites.  They would travel through FEDEX probably ok.  Other than introducing food, they will need to live alone.  They usually eat their mate. For sale at AlwaysBrilliant.com, Best-Prices.com, Dealtime.com.

  2. You ask if it would be happy???  You take it out of it's environment and place it in solitary confinement with plastic make believe plants and you think it will be happy?  You would be better off with a pet rock.  Then you can put it anywhere you like and it won't run away or go crazy with grief.

  3. I have seen praying mantis in wisconsin but I live in a rual area 45 miles away from GB. I don't know how well It will live in confinement, i don't think you can exactly go to walmart and buy praying mantis food? So, good luck with that.
