Pre IB. What's it all about, exactly?

So I've been accepted into the Pre IB program witch I know is just training for the International baccalaureate Program, but what exactly do you do in the International baccalaureate?

Do you get to travel?

What's the point?

How much harder is it?

Is it harder than AP?

Does it get you a better chance into getting into universities/colleges?

Also, is what I'm doing helping me even a little bit to get ready? I'll be a freshman next year!

I've already the grade 9 and 10 reading lists and started on the grade 11 list.

I memorized every word in the dictionary?

I'm also meeting my organization tooter next week to help me stay on track during the school year.

What else can I do to get me ready??!!

THANKS SO MUCH :)

  1. You don't get to travel, unless your school has great funding. They do brag that being an IB student makes you more 'international', whatever that means.

There's only one reason to pursue an IB diploma, and that is to learn. If you're thoroughly interested in exploring news levels of knowledge, take IB. If you're just after college credit, take AP.

AP is generally only in the US, and with the IB you are competing with students from hundreds of countries for the top grades. I don't think the curriculum is harder, but the way they ask questions and the extra work (CAS, EE, TOK) definitely is. And six subjects, which are required, can be quite stressful at times.

Unfortunately, in the US, many times colleges treat IB as inferior to AP, due to sheer ignorance of the program. Credit is given for higher level exams only (usually) of a 6 or 7, whereas in AP a 4 or 5 (which is much easier to achieve) is generally accepted.

Honestly, you'll do great in pre-IB. Those classes will not be extraordinarily different from the ones I'm sure you're used to, in terms of workload. However, when you enter (if you enter) the DP, then the workload will increase by quite a lot.

You sound very prepared, and I'm sure you'll do fine.
