I live in NJ and am wondering if I should consider enrolling my daughter in a Pre-K program. I don't know if she's even old enough..from what I understand in NJ the cut-off is Oct 1st for a child to turn 4 but I'm not certain and can't find any websites..help please?

My daughter won't be 4 until mid November..I just want to verify the deadline date...thanks..

  1. My son turned 4 in January, I tried to enroll him last year but he was to young.  Just call your local school and ask them, but it may be to late for this year anyway.  Our cut-off for enrollment was in May.

  2. Typically State/Federally Funded programs usually go along with your State's cut off date.  And if the site I use is correct...November 30th for NJ I think.    Go ahead and try to enroll her they can always tell you no.  Nevertheless, if that Nov 30th is correct, she WILL qualify for Kindergarten next year if her birthday is mid November.  Call the program up.  They'll give you the best answers.

Now if she isn't able to be enrolled...why not consider a "private" preschool... there are decent preschool programs in day care centers (do your research first), some are affiliated with churches (not many teach their philosophy...you just have to ask...we sent our son to a Lutheren Preschool but we aren't that religion.)  Check out your area.  Call the school up and ask for some advice.  :-)  Good luck!
