Question:

Pre-K Questions?

What age do most public school Pre-K classes take? What is the minimum and is there a birthday cut-off like Sept. 1 or something? How many kids are typically in a class? Did your child benefit from Pre-K? Any additional info about Pre-K would be appreciated.

By the way, I live in West Virginia if anyone has any info specific to WV.

Thanks!

  1. I think kids at the age of four start Pre-K, your best bet is to call local schools or programs that you're thinking of sending your child

  2. Depending on which program you have them in such as private or state funded pre school. If state funded proirty goes to 4 year olds then 3 year olds. Also they must be potty trained. Not to sure what the ratio in the class is but they depend a lot on parent participation. My kids are in pre-k right now (they are twins) and they have benefited a lot. You'll be surprised what is expected from kids before they enter kindergarten.

  3. In Ohio preschool is 3-5.  Each school district is responsible for setting the date of entry for kindergarten.  Most kindergarten students enter school at 5 but parents can choose to wait a year.

My husband and I are teachers and decided to send our children to kindergarten when they were 6.  Their maturity level was greater than most children and they entered college ready to leave home and take care of themselves.

  4. I would call the local school in your area, they should have information about the pre-K classes, most likely they have some in the public school.

If not you can go to this site National Head Start site.(http://www.hsnrc.org) and look up WV to see if there is a Head Start in that area.

Most schools go by your birthday for Kindergarten.

  5. you have to be 4 to get in and and about the cut off im not real sure but i had to wait till i was six to go to kindergaden my, b day came late and there is maybe 10 children and it does help them they learn there colors and learn to share and learn to be a round others kids so its not so scary when they go to kindergarden they have adappted more
