  1. Hi

You can put the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom in the science center..and then put a coconut (regular) next to it for the children to use their senses to explore (shake it, smell it, listen to it, feel it, look at it..hear, and eventually taste whats inside).

You can also add shredded coconut, books about coconuts as well as foods that are made from coconuts (coconut shrimp, macaroons, etc). also put magnifying glasses in the center..so kids can look at it up close!

You can ask the children who has had coconut, what they know about them, etc.

you can also do the book...chicka chicka 1, 2, 3 (and do an apple taste test, etc). put different types of apples in the science area...and then have the children explore them. you can put them in a water table and see which ones float, etc. make star prints, plant the seeds (they really work), etc.

    have fun!

  2. different types of fruit seeds, non fiction books about fruit... lots of stuff!  Cut a cantaloupe in half and put it in your sensory table for the kids to examine.  Try doing a taste/smell test on different fruits.

    Have fun!

  3. A picture that is a crossection of a fruit, explaining what a fruit is. You could bring the kids over to it at some point and explain it to them and then give examples of fruits, then show them some veggies and talk about the difference.

  4. Bring an avocado and take out the seed with them watching.  Insert about six toothpicks  around the seed then place them on the edge of a bowl with part of the seed touching some water.

  5. fruit offers lots of science interest......

fruit salad...either individual or as a class...fruit prints.....fruit juice.....seeds (both sorting, and planting activities are possible).....differences in leaves, flowers(or other ways fruit begins)...and environments(apples grow all over but citrus trees need to be in warm climates)...along with just being able to look at and touch the different fruits.....i even brought some of these to the larger group also and introduced fruits that were not familiar to my students...(star fruit, jack fruit, ugli fruit) before placing them at the science center for further examination............

just use your imagination and go to the various grocery stores(american, asian, and others) to gather ideas and fruit of course
