Question:

Pre-booking in Greece? Good idea or bad? ?

So I am planning a trip to Greece with a friend and I read a review mentioning how if you don't pre-book certain hotels/pensions/hostels/etc. you can go and book it a lot cheaper when you show up. Is this too risky? Are there ways you can figure out which places will most likely do this? I just want to spend the cheapest possible. Thanks!

  1. Hi A,it depends on the time of year you will be travelling to Greece. June through to August I would suggest you book as it is hard to find vacancies in the more popular resorts.Any other time you could find a bargain & many vacancies, but then again why would you go to Greece in Winter time.I will give you a few Greek sites they may help.Enjoy your travels,Greece & its Islands are truly a magnificent & magical place worthy of visiting.

  2. Depends on the time of year and the destination.  In Athens,  April to June is high season and expensive.  July-Aug is not that expensive because most people tend to stay one night before moving on to the islands.  The Islands are high season from July-Aug.  In September, the rates drop quite low.

If you haven't made a date yet, I would suggest you visit Greece in September.  Lower rates, it's still hot, but not unbearable as in July-Aug and it is a lot less crowded, not as many tourists.  You will find a room/hotel by just wandering around, but I'm not so sure about the rates.  I do know however, that most tourists get the best rates by booking through their local agent.  You can also try a comparison tool which will give you the best rate on the market.  Try www.hotelcomparison.com
