  1. This graph will look the same as f(x) except in regions where f(x) is negative. During these regions | f(x) | will be a reflection of f(x) in the x-axis.


  2. It should look like a V, with the point being at (0,0). From there just reflect or translate if need be! :)

  3. First graph the function, the anything that is under the x-axis (y=0) needs to be reflected back to the positive side of the axis.

    Ex.  When graphing f(x)=y=x, draw the line and then reflect the part left of the origin up above the x-axis.

    Similarly with y=x^3, etc.

  4. It should look like a V

    If you plug in 1, you might get 5.  plug in -1, you might get -5, but f(x) is absolute value, so it would be 5 still.

    Positive x's will give you positive y's.  -x's will still give you positive y's when you go left past the vertical axis.

    So it should look like this:  V
