  1. Here is the NAEYC article that I left for another person.  This is a good framework to go by. I was a contractor for a while and would like to add another thing to consider if building this yourself.  The treatment process in wood has changed to the chemical in pressure treated wood (CCA , A= arsenic) was obviously toxic.  Look into ACQ or other products that offer ammonia base preservatives or some natural wood that is both rot/termite resistant (to a point)  I would also consider the wood to be prone to splinters, wear and the need to painted. Many city's have moved towards metal structures to combat all of this.  As far as the overall outside physical space, you can find a lot in this article.

  2. Have you tried googling "blue prints for preschool playgrounds" ? Give it a try and see what comes up for you. Good luck!

  3. I don't know about layouts, but here's the address for a place to get a safety handbook from the government.  We use this one as a guideline for making decisions about quality materials on our playgrounds.  It provides a lot of useful information for what to purchase, how big fall zones should be and how deep cushioning materials should be, etc.    However you decide to lay it out, make sure it's safe!  :-)
