I'm in my highschool's preschool program and I have a lesson about trees and leaves coming up. I was wondering if anybody had some alphabet or pre-reading ideas that go along with that theme?

  1. I agree with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom... if you don't care what kind of tree it is  :-)  If you search this online...you will find many awesome ideas that others have done.

In the most recent Mailbox Magazine...they had a song...

    Choose and Sing

Tune:  He's Got the Whole World In His Hands

(Sam)'s got the letter (M) in his hand.

(Sam)'s got the letter (M) in his hand.

(Sam)'s got the letter (M) in his hand.

    (/m/, /m/,/m/, /m/, /m/, /m/, /m/, /m/)

You could make a simple tree (even have the children help paint the trunk...add green leaves with the alphabet on them.  Invite a child to choose a letter and show it to the group and then sing the song.  Or on the other hand... have the child choose a leaf...sing the song as a group...and then put it up on the tree.  You could use chart paper or a pocket chart and have the children's names and letters of the alphabet on cards for further literacy practice.

    Good luck.

  2. take it from a preschool teacher the book "chicka

chicka boom boom" will work for your theme and children love it. You will be able to make a board

read the book make collage and many other things from this one book.
