Pre-school art and craft activities??!!?

Ive been asked to take a group of pre school children at a school, they want me to do some art and crafts with them but stuck for ideas wat to do, i need something that will keep them occupied but not too boring, any ideas!!

color w/ chalk or crayons, playdough, noise makers, paint dobbers, let them put foam stickies on paper wherever they want.

Don't hamper their creativity. Give them a set of basic materials, be that colouring sticks and paper, lumps of clay or playdough, paints, whatever and let them explore the materials. Talk to them along they way about what they are doing (drawing, making, painting etc) Give ideas and guidance when asked, but try and take the lead from them. At that age you want to develop their sense of fun, play and curiosity, not produce works of art.

The structure comes from how you engineer the session, the layout of the room, the materials you provide and how you guide the conversation. EG a model of a Caterpillar may cause you to ask the children if they know any stories about caterpillars. Any material can be made appropriate for use with young children - felt, wool, textiles, scrap materials.

Just my two peneth. This is really such a large subject, start with a few simple ideas, do some research and build on your experiences. You'll get so excited that you'll want to do everything at once. ;-) I know I did.

I love children's drawings, they are so free and fresh.

Christmas Tree Gift Bag

CRAFT MATERIALS:

Paper bag  

Glue  

Card stock  

Marker  

Pencil  

Fake gems  

Glitter  

Hole punch  

Stapler  

Time needed: About 1 Hour

Use a pencil and a ruler to lightly mark a triangle on a green paper gift bag

2. Fold along these lines, then smooth out the folds and lay the bag flat.

3. Decorate inside the triangle with swags of glue and glitter, then glue on fake gems and circles hole-punched from white or colored paper. Allow the glue to dry, then place a small gift inside the bag.

4. Refold the bag and staple the sides together at the back, then glue a yellow card stock star to the top of the tree.

Play doh is great for kids that age, and you can make it yourself very cheaply and easily.

Play dough recipe

1 cup of water

1 tablespoon of oil

1 heaped cup of plain flour

cup of salt

2 teaspoons of cream of tartar

food colouring as required

Stored in an airtight container it will keep and be reusable for quite a long time.

Here are some ideas from me:

1. Let them go outside and pick leaves from the ground. Just one or two different types. Back inside, give each child a black sheet of construction paper. The child will trace the two leaves on the black sheet of paper. Then, using glue to outline (OUTLINE) the leaf that they already traced, they can color in the leaf with fall colors (brown, orange, yellow, red) by chalk or pastels...

I always remember being at nursery, and painting pictures with my hands i.e. paint on palm of hand, hand onto paper, etc!  You will have to make sure the kids are dressed in clothes the parents don't mind getting paint on!

Make masks.  Already have the masks cut out, but the kids decorate them with glitter, dried pasta stuck on then painted (always a hit), feathers...

Take the children into the school yard to collect leaves that have fallen from the trees.  Get them to paint them and stick them onto paper to make pictures...

children need to get practice to doing lots of activities...i would recommend you to teach them some simple paper- folding crafts ( you can refer to any book on origami ). drawing and painting can also be taught  by taking simpler pictures..you can refer to any activity books and get some interesting ideas out of it.you can also teach them some craft items in the form of games...try it....best of luck!!!!!

Making shakers out of toilet paper rolls. Put beans inside and wrap paper of some kind on the outside and glue to the roll. Decorate and shake away!
