  1. At baby and toddler stage they will not understand the concept of growing, although they will be becoming familiar with their body parts.

Why don't you try doing hand and foot prints and cut them out. Introduce very simple vocabulary to them such as bigger and smaller.

You could also introduce them to flowers and allow them to participate in the watering of it.

With the older children you could do a hands on growing activity  such as planting, when the children have a basic understanding that flowers grow taller when fed and watered then you could encourage them to draw their own flower and everything it needs to grow (great for realizing the child's understanding of the activity).

  2. Hand prints and footprints: children can explore texture of paint-adult can join in so they can compare sizes and recognise they will soon grow.

More for toddlers: printing or sticking-creating own flower pictures....adult can talk about growth-showchildren real life bulbs etc.

Walkabout: Esp in the nice weather go for walk about and sit amongst flowers, trees etc to see the real world and how its growing.

Something nursery rhyme based: "Five Little Peas"---look up the nursery rhyme-itrs about a pea pod that grew and then went pop---is a nice start for a display, sing along, crafts etc.

I use underfives.co.uk and ask.com to search for various ideas..oh and Nursery World.

  3. handprints, footprints, drawing around their body on big butcher paper and letting them finish it up.

  4. I have found the best crafts and activities by googling preschool and my theme. Try that. Also, wanted to give you a specific one... Have all the kids bring in baby pictures. Play a game on guessing whose is whose. You can also make sure with the parents that it is okay to use in a craft project and cut the photos into puzzles the kids can play with. Just be sure to mount them onto a heavy duty cardstock first.

Have the kids try to come up with as many things they can think of that have to do with babies.

For an art project, get a few baby bottles and make the holes in the nipples a bit larger. Fill them with washable paint and let the kids make a drip drop painting on construction paper shaped like a bottle or baby.

Another art project could be.... use diecuts. Use a baby diecut, a toddler die-cut, a child die-cut and an adult diecut. Let the children glue them in order of growth.

    Hope this helps!

  5. aaaa you could have them draw (or try)what they really really want to do when they grow up.

  6. hand prints, each child prints their hand and you then grade them onto a wall according to size. The adults also do hand prints to compare. This also works with footprints.

Get some cress seeds and egg shells draw a face on the egg shell and put cotton wool in  it then sprinkle the cress onto the damp cotton wool, the cress grows in a few days and becomes the hair. Shows children the germination and growth theory.

  7. Get the children to draw around each other. Use wall paper on the floor, get one child to lie down and another to draw around them. They could finish them off by adding facial features and painting on clothes. The different sizes could be compared. It would make a great art display too if all the drawings were cut out and put on the wall.

    Have fun.

  8. get some blocks (preferably the big cardboard ones) and have someone else stack how many blocks tall each child is - they do this in partners. Then have a paper where they draw I am ______ blocks tall.
