I am putting my twins in pre-school next month (head start) and one of my concerns is my child being afraid to ask to use the potty, esp because they just got potty trained and my daughter is giving me a really hard time w/ using the potty she has a lot accidents. So I am worried about this and actually thinking about not putting them in head start. but I am wondering how the teachers deal with this and if they help them use the restroom.

  1. The teachers will deal with it :-) they are really one of few preschools that will actually work with your children to help you get them pottytrained.  You just let them know about how often they usually go and they will remind your little ones that it is time to potty.  Also you can go to the classroom too and be there for a few classes to help them adjust which is great.

  2. is the head start home based?  if not don't worry the teacher is trained to ask our kids if they have to use the potty.  just tell the teacher your concerns about your children and it will all work out in the end.

  3. Alot of preschool teachers dont accept children who arent potty trained. Its not the teachers responsibilty to change diapears. I teach at a preschool which does not take students who arent potty trained. If they had an accident, we would call you right away to either take them hom eor clean them up. We cant keep an extra set of clothes for each student. If you were unable to make it right away, we would of course try to help them clean up, but thats really all we can do. You have to understand as well, there are boundaries when it comes to a child and a teacher. Its not exactly lawful for us to be touching them in that way, and it can be dangerous if the parent ever has a fit. You should talk to the teachers who are going to be working at the school, and see what thier guidelines are.

We can go with the child to the bathroom, but we shouldnt be going into the stall with the child. If your child just needs a presence there, the teacher can help. But how much assistance does your child need? That is another good question you should ask yourself.

Add: Preschools are NOT like daycares. There are differnt guidelines and the parent should be aware of the rules of the classroom.

  4. Preschool is nothing but daycare. Yes the teacher will help them, they are only...4? If you REALLY do have concerns then keep them and let them get used to it for a year.
