  1. There are 64 ideas for winter-time activites on After-School-Care.com. Many, many are "snowman related" - following are a few that are science related and the other is fun. Check out the winter activity forum. That page link is:

    Inside Snowman...

In the winter gather snow in a LARGE shallow baking pan. Make a smaller version of a snowman---decorate it just as you would an outdoor snowman...eyes, arms, nose, and scarf. Place the snowman on a table where the children can watch it melt through out the day.

A nice hands-on sensory-science project. Your children will really like i!!!

    Bring the Snow Inside!!!

When you have a lot of snow--and it's too cold to play outside-- have the children help you fill large tubs with new snow and carry it in!!! Fill your sensory table, large tubs, or a sink with the snow. The children can use gloves to play in it.

Variations include filling the empty sand table or other large containers with snow...and then ADDING pre-made colored ice-cubes of different sizes. So the children won't soil their own mittens---collect old mittens for them to wear while they play with the snow and the melting colored ice.

    Homemade Snow----(it doesn't melt!)

Four bars of Ivory Soap, twelve rolls of toilet paper, 3 cups borax, warm water, a large plastic tub with a tight lid.

Unroll and shred toilet paper into plastic tub. Add water until paper is covered. Grate the soap into the soaking paper. Add the borax. If the mixture ends up too wet, drain over a fine screen or cheese cloth.

Play with SCOOPS, AND BOWLS, AND MOLDS. Will keep for several weeks in an airtight container if no ingredients are added.

Sparkling Snow Dough (Previously make the play dough and have childen build snowmen, etc. (Turning liquid into a solid is science.)

    2 cups water

    2 cups flour

    1 cup salt

    4 tsp. cream of tartar

    4 tsp. oil

    iridescent glitter

Combine ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with wooden spoon. until mixture thickens and pulls away from sides of pan. Form dough into a ball, place on waxed paper and cool. Knead in glitter.

    Shaving Cream Snowmen

It doesn't have to snow to make a snowman! Cover your table with plastic, then spray several cans of shaving cream on top. Kids have fun making snowmen--pretending it's snow!

You may want to have them wear shirts or aprons over their clothing---- cleanup is simple!

  2. Here are some ideas for snowman stuff, but not science related:

    http://www.preschoolrainbow.org/winter.h...

    Here is something for science:

Tell the kids that a baby gets their character traits (what they look like, eyes, ears, nose, etc) from their parents. Then have them make 3 snowman, 1 mom, 1 dad, and 1 kid. Provide marshmallows, gumdrops, M & M's, and other small candies to be eyes. For arms, use pretzels. Tell the kids that their baby snowman must have at least one trait from each parent. For exanple, the mom and baby have green eyes and the dad and baby have 4 arms.

  3. Since it's for science, you can teach them how snow is made.   Make it a lesson about the weather and seasons.

    WHAT DOES COLD FEEL LIKE?

Get some ice cubes from the freezer and let the kids play with them and talk about how cold they are. You can also have them dip the ice cubes in a small amount of paint and slide them around on a large piece of paper to make abstract water colors!

You can also make it a "biology" lesson and teach them about arctic animals that live in the snow.
