can anyone confirm that there will be no runners from the derby going on to the Preakness except big brown?

also Japanese business executive Hidetoshi Yamamoto will be taking his horse casino drive to the Belmont......... i know someone who has seen this horse work, and by all reports he's an absolute freak.. putting together very smart sectional times! i am also told that this is the only horse that can stop big brown winning the triple crown! does any one else know anything about casino drive? and does anyone know how big brown is coming along in preperation to the preakness?

also the mare of casino drive has produced the last two belmont stakes winners!

  1. Gayego is confirmed to run in the Preakness and may have a chance. He had traffic problems in the derby.I've heard rumors on Casino Drive, has the pedigree to handle the Belmont, will have to do some research on him

  2. the thing is, horse racing is sooo unpredictable that you cannot predict the outcome. people try to but you cant. big brown is a good racehorse. but all of them are there for one reason or another. they all have a chance. just some more than others. anything can happen in a race. look at eight belles. sooo many people thought she'd win the derby. but look what happened. think of that next time your sooo sure big brown might win. dont get your hopes up. it'll break your heart..

  3. Casino Drive looks like a great up and coming 3-year-old. However, both Jazil and Rags (last 2 Belmont winners) were more experienced coming into the Belmont.  Casino Drive has only had 2 starts, he hasn't raced against any U.S. stakes winners yet, and he hasn't run a two-turn race in the U.S. yet (Peter Pan is one turn, I'm not sure if his maiden in Japan was one or two turn).

Casino Drive seemed to love the Belmont course in his win in the Peter Pan so he has that over Big Brown -- Big Brown hasn't raced at Belmont Park yet.   All of the past U.S. Triple Crown winners raced at Belmont Park as two-year-olds.  I don't give that much weight, though, because Big Brown has already proven he can defy history.

As others said, Gayego is the only other Derby starter who will race in the Preakness.

  4. Here's the most recent ESPN info about the Preakness.  Big Brown drew post 7.  Gayego drew post 12; those are the only two Derby runners in the Preakness.

  5. This is Grade (1)One Thoroughbred Racing.  It appears that only Gayego will join Big Brown in the Kentucky Derby Preakness Stakes combination.  There are Maryland based owners and trainers who train entries especially for the Preakness Stakes.

Anything can happen between today and the Belmont Stakes.  Traditionally there are New York based runners especially trained especially for a Belmont Stakes (one and one half mile) performance.  This generally insures a true test of a champion.

When the gates open every runner has an opportunity, whatever the odds.  Big Brown and Casino Drive need to be on their "A" Game.  Big Brown is the only runner in the entries who can become a "Triple Crown Winner".    Preakness Stakes competition will be the proof.

  6. my opinion only...big brown is the real deal and the others are there to show off, ego, etc. gayego is a i wanna be!

  7. Gayego is in the Preakness...

Big Brown came out of kentucky Derby fine... He has not put in a workout like breezing 5 or 4 furlongs but Dutrow never intended to breeze him anyways. He has galloped and jogged for 7 days. The bad weather at Kentucky this week affected some of his routine, and he did miss some days of gallopping but his trainer Rick Dutrow is not concerened by that. Big Brown has been happy and has been eating his oats with a hearty appetite!

Big Brown should regress from his derby performance but not so much that he looses the preakness.

Gayego who is returning to face Big Brown in the Preakness had to be steadied in the front stretch of the Derby and he never got to run. He was not used and he was saved up for the Preakness by Jockey Mike Smith. He should be in top shape for Saturday's race.

Now Gayego is not the horse Big Brown is but don't be surprized if Big Brown is kicking his heart out just to beat him.

Depending on how Big Brown comes out of the preakness, (Has to be both healthy and a winner) he will go to Belmont where an even bigger challenge awaits him.

I've already been talking about the coming of a formidable Belmont contender...

I said this last week when Ashlee P asked...

"Big Brown for the Triple Crown?"  I am answer #13 (the Url is in the Source list)

I was giving scenarios of what could go wrong for Big Brown in the Belmont.

    I said...

"What if he runs into a horse we don't know about that's bred for the marathon distance? ( Happend to Curlin against Rags to Riches... No Tripple Crown Bid was on the line though.)"

and a few days later... Casino Drive wins the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont.

    "That's just erie isn't it...?"

Video of the race is here:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/vide...

He was ridden by Big Browns jockey Kent Desormeaux too and Kent is very concerned about the triple crown now. He knows they (Him and Big Brown) will have it tough against Casino Drive and whoever the new jockey will be.

Casino Drive is bred for the distance and he loves the WIDE TURNS at Belmont... Curlin loss the Belmont to Casino's sister Rags to Riches last year and Curlin is a MONSTER HORSE! Curlin was Horse of the year last year and he had won The Preakness in one of the fastest times ever... He also won the Breeder's Cup & the Dubai Cup since then. (those are 4-5 Million dollar races each)

So it says alot for the bloodlines of Casino Drive... The Breeding is there to upset Big Brown at Belmont...

Big Brown is still a better horse. His performance in the Florida Derby was awsome with the speedy fractions he set, and he was wide the whole race at Kentucky. You can shave a second off of his final time in the derby to gage how good he really was. I would not pick Casino Drive to beat him on any other track but Belmont nor would I pick him if Big Brown was well rested which he won't be...

The Belmont will be a 50/50 chance to win.

I hope Big Brown can do it but he has alot against him

Don't forget Big Brown has been racing on cracked hooves that are glued and he can come undone at anytime...

  8. The Post draw is tonight so we will know for sure, but if you check out the Preakness page, you can see who is scheduled to go.  As of now, Gayego is the only other Derby horse going to the Preakness.

Unlike some people, I like Big Brown but I am not giving him the Triple Crown now, He needs to earn it and going into the Belmont after 2 races in 2 weeks after another 3 weeks off, we need to remember that he will be facing all new fresh and rested horses in the Belmont.
