If my stereo receiver has a "preamp out" connection, what does it mean?

How do I add a subwoofer into the system if my stereo receiver has a "preamp out" ?

  1. You Could Connect A Powered Subwoofer To The Preamp Output.

  2. The preamp output allows you to connect an external amp. This connection will reroute your line level signal outside of your receiver to bypass the receiver's amp.

You could use this output to connect a self powered sub as long as you don't have a, preamp out/preamp in, loop. You will know this if there are jumper wires going from the preamp out to the preamp in. If you remove these then you can not use the receivers amplifier.
