Question:

Prebuilt Desktop help?

I'm trying to put together a good pc for someone with a small budget of 500-600. The requirements are pretty simple, just the system unit itself, Windows Vista 64Bit (As 32 cannot detect less than 4gb, for future upgrades), and a quad processor.

My problem is that I hit up to the high 700- low 800s. I cannot keep this under the wanted budget. The only MOBO i like is the MSI P45 Neo2.

Think is I hate prebuilts and recommending a prebuilt is hard for me. I hate the installed crapware of the OS, low brand RAM, questionable MOBOs that are installed.

But I must admit some prebuilts do last for some time and something like installling a video card can make it better.

So how about some recommendations? Vista 64bit, quad processor. about 500ish.

  1. You sound like you know what you are doing so i'll just direct you to newegg for you to read reviews and testimonials.

  2. So, what you are saying is that you are going to waste $100-$200 of your "friends" money because YOU don't like Dell?

Must not be a very good friend, eh?

I'm no "fan" of Dell, but they aren't really bad machines, and they have the best prices of anyone out there.  It's unlikely you can put a system together for her for the price you could buy a pre-assembled system from Dell.
