Predicting Starting 11 for Manchester United (Part 1)
If there is any league on the planet that is considered to be the “most competitive” football league, then it is definitely the English Premier League. With amazing teams like Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspurs and Aston Villa in the top 7; it is hard to find a Champions League spot.
Last season, Tottenham Hotspurs came on top and went up to number 4 as Liverpool, who lost only one game in the previous season, were not even in the top 5 and ended on the 7th spot. Liverpool was a really strong side but the injuries that their players suffered just made them lose and draw a lot of games, and therefore they just couldn’t meet the expectations and couldn’t even make it to the Champions League. Liverpool not only failed to make it to the Champions League, in fact, they also were unable to make it to the finals round of the Europa League which Atletico Madrid eventually won from Fulham; the side which surprised everyone by their amazing performance against Juventus, and were able to qualify for the final match against the Spanish team.
After such a bad season, the manager of Liverpool, Rafa Benitez, was sacked and Roy Hodgson, the manager of Fulham, was now to take charge of Liverpool. Although Liverpool was going through a lot of crises, as Torres and Gerrard were thinking about leaving the club, Roy Hodgson still kept his calm throughout these situations, and was able to motivate both the players to stay in the English club. Fernando Torres had an injury plagued season last year, and this time round he expects to do wonders with the ball, as he is going to return from his injury that he suffered during the FIFA World Cup 2010. Torres was out of from and was going through fitness crises, when he showed up in the starting 11 of the Spanish side, as they faced Switzerland during the FIFA World Cup 2010; however, Gerard was one of those English players which actually performed really well for the English side, managing to score the only goal against USA during the group stages. Gerard was not only able to score goals, in fact, he also delivered a fabulous cross to Upson during the match against Germany and that cross was turned into a goal by the English defender.
With players coming back to form, Manchester United is the only club which suffered the most. Their previous season’s star Wayne Rooney gave a huge shock to the world by not scoring a single goal during the FIFA World Cup 2010; although he was one-on-one with the German goalkeeper and all that he could produce was a shot that struck the pole. With Manchester United’s star out of form, and with the English crowd booing him throughout his community shield match against Chelsea; Sir Alex Ferguson definitely needs to improve on his starting 11 to win the title.
During the match against Chelsea, Alex Ferguson tried a few new players as Micheal Owen was included in the starting 11, while Rooney was given a role of a “shadow striker,” and was not playing as a soul striker like he usually is.
With the new season approaching in a week’s time, the following is the “predicted” starting 11 for Manchester United, which they “might” play against Newcastle United.
Edwin Van Der Sar (Goalkeeper):
Manchester United has always been famous with their goalkeepers with big names like Barthez, Schmeichel and Van Der Sar included in those big names. Sar has always been able to impress many fans with his fabulous saves, since he is the most experienced goalkeeper at the moment. He is definitely going to be a part of Alex Ferguson’s plans, considering his amazing goalkeeping skills, and has shown his talent time and time again. No one can forget how the team suffered without him as Ben Foster literally gifted a few goals to the other teams. Van Der Saar is definitely going to be a part of the starting 11, when the Red Devils are going to take their positions on the field.
