Predicting Starting 11 for Manchester United (Part 2)
Patrice Evra (Left Back)
Patrice Evra is definitely the man Alex Ferguson can rely on. There is no better option for the Red Devils’ manager to play as a left back as he is the best man for the job. Patrice Evra has been a part of United since the year 2006 and he has been able to show the world what he is made of. Although he hasn’t scored many goals for Manchester United because he is a defender; he still manages to pull off assists, as he moves forward from the left-hand side and helps in crossing the ball inside the 18 yard box. Patrice Evra is one of the best left backs in the world right now, with his name is as famous as Eric Abidal and Ashley Cole, who are also amazing left backs. Patrice Evra is 29 years old and is on the top of his game at the moment. Even though he did not have a good FIFA World Cup 2010 with his country France, when they were knocked out in the group stages; he actually did have a good season with Manchester United and he is ready to come back with a bang.
Chris Smalling (Centre Back)
Manchester United’s new signing; Chris Smalling could be the new replacements for Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand. Chris Smalling performed well for the team when he was sent down on the field against Chelsea in the community shield match. Even though he is only 20 years old, the youngster can seriously perform well as a centre back. With his height’s advantage, the English footballer can easily defend the balls in air and the ground. Even though he is not that quick, the centre back can pull off great tackles and can easily clear the ball if the opponents are a threat. Chris Smalling, during the match against Chelsea, was able to head the balls away from Didier Drogba and helped his team defend the attacks that Chelsea kept on coming up with. Chris Smalling along with Jonny Evans can be the replacements for the legendary Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand. It is obviously difficult for Sir Alex Ferguson to make a defender who can easily replace “Ferdinand,” therefore he is going to try a few before he can finally settle down to one. Comparing everyone’s performance till now, Chris Smalling has a chance for the team, as he is already called up for Fabio Capello’s English squad.
Nemanja Vidic (Centre Back)
He is definitely a first choice for Sir Alex Ferguson. If there is one defender that Manchester Untied can rely on, it is definitely Vidic. Vidic has impressed a lot in recent matches as he can seriously take down any striker, and can help his team defend the attacks that the opponents are pulling off. It is very “odd” that Vidic actually came down to play football as a striker but at the end of the day he turned out to be a magnificent defender. Although the Serbian was linked with Real Madrid recently, since the Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho was interested in the centre back because of his amazing skills; Manchester United were able to make him stay by signing a new contract for the club. Nemanja Vidic is going to play for Manchester United as a defender and he is definitely going to be in the starting 11 because of his amazing record. His ability to take the ball in air is simply magnificent and he even uses his height during set pieces to score goals for the club. Despite the fact that he does not have many goals to his tally, he still managed to score a few important goals for the club.
Wes Brown (Right Back)
Wes Brown is one of those players who can seriously tackle the ball roughly, and just snatch it away from the opponents. He is one of the most talented “tacklers” that Manchester United have but only because of his injuries, he just could not come down to the list of legendary names in the club. If he is able to stay fit and fine, then he is definitely the first choice for the club. He can easily cover a lot of area, and can make a move forward to help the attacks from the right hand side. He is definitely going to be featured in tougher games against teams that are a threat to the club. During the league games, such teams include Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
