Predicting the Starting 11 for Catalan Giants
With the new season approaching, the fresh Starting 11 coach, Pep Guardiola, must pick his players for the league. FC Barcelona is currently ranked at the top with Spanish League title up their sleeve. Guardiola has helped the team improve radically, making it one of the biggest threat to the title-chasers. This year round things have changed a bit for the Spanish club; they have signed new players and let go of many. Cesc Fabregas is no longer a part of Starting 11 and fans have yet to figure out what’s in store for them!
Below are a few predications for Barcelona’s league in upcoming season.
Victor Valdes (Goalkeeper)
Victor Valdes is the winner of the Zamora Trophy in 2004-2005 for best goalkeeping in Spain, and a goalkeeper with least number of conceded goals in the previous season. He is definitely the first choice for the Catalan Giants. Valdes’ performance during the previous season was simply fabulous with numerous clean sheets. He cannot be called the “best” goalkeeper in Spain right now because Iker Casillas of Real Madrid is currently wearing the Number 1 jersey for the Spanish team.
Eric Abidal (Left Back)
Possibly one of the best left backs in the Spanish La Liga; Eric Abidal is definitely a must-have option for FC Barcelona. Abidal was a part of UEFA’s team back in 2007. With a disappointing FIFA World Cup 2010, with France; Abidal is back into training with his club. The left-footed defender has the ability to move forward, as he can cross the ball really well. His spot in the first team is definite, as he has shown a pretty good form in the previous season as well. Other choices for a left-back include Maxwell and the freshman, Adriano.
Carles Puyol (Centre Back)
A player who often makes it to the top of the “best defenders” league; Carles Puyol is if not the best, then one of the best defenders in the Spanish La Liga at the moment. He is currently the captain of the club and is at the peak of his performance. Puyol has been a “defender of the year,” nominee numerous times and is definitely doing a fine job at that position. The captain of the team will definitely be a part of the first team and is going to give his best. He is one of few Barcelonan players, with every other trophy up their sleeve. The trophies include 6 trophies of 2008 and 2009 season, the European Championship in 2008 and the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
Gerard Pique (Centre Back):
One of the young centre backs of the team who has worked his way to the top, strengthening the defensive walls of the team is Gerard Pique. He is one of the best centre backs in Spain and is definitely going to be a part of the first team of FC Barcelona. He is currently in a very good form and has led his country through the final match against the Dutch in South Africa. Gerard Pique was a part of the Spanish squad that won the FIFA World Cup. He can easily adapt to the “tiki-taka” football that Pep Guardiola started with an ability to become a centre forward. During the match against Inter Milan in the Champion’s League semi final, Gerard Pique was given the job of a centre forward as Barcelona was unable to beat the Italian defence. The man who scored the only goal of the match, Pique is definitely going to add substance to the team.
