Predicting the Starting 11 for Real Madrid (Part 2)
Marcelo Vieira (Left Back)
During the previous season, Marcelo was one of those players who felt “out of place.” He was even introduced as a striker during the match against Barcelona. No one understood why he was not being played as a left back, since he actually plays in that position. Marcelo is definitely one of the best choices that Jose Mourinho. He is a good substitute to Arbeloa and Drenthe, who were totally out of form during the previous season. Royston Drenthe is also a good left-back player, but the Brazilian man, Marcelo, is one of the best men for the job. Just because of his disappointing season with Real Madrid, he was not even chosen for Dunga’s Brazilian squad that took part in the FIFA World Cup 2010. He was one of those players who actually had a disappointing last season along with his Brazilian team-mate Kaka, who also couldn’t perform exceptionally well. If Chelsea refuses to sell off their asset Ashley Cole, then Real Madrid will definitely consider Marcelo, who is one of the best left-backs that Real Madrid has.
Pepe (Centre Back)
Pepe is definitely one of those centre backs who has made serious impact on Real Madrid’s defence. He is the key man in the defence, as he can seriously head the ball to help defend goals. Pepe is not only a “big name” in the squad; he is also a portentous centre back as he helps his team by winning the ball in air. The six-footed defender can also score goals with the help of his marvellous heading techniques and can also give good long balls to the midfielders and attackers. With strikers like Cristiano Ronaldo playing in the team, any long ball can end up inside the net. Pepe was a part of the Portuguese starting 11 in the FIFA World Cup 2010, and this was because of his amazing season at Real Madrid. Even though they lost both the legs against their rivals Barcelona, Real Madrid still managed to grab a number 2 spot, as they finished only 3 points behind them.
Raul Albiol (Centre Back)
Albiol was also bought before the last season to make the defence strong. Albiol is a player who barely managed to keep his performance above-average in the previous season. Many are unsure about his performances, however, some say that he is an amazing talent and once he is going to settle for the team, he is going to be a defensive wall. He was playing for Valencia, before he got transferred to Madrid. The former Valencian centre back had a pretty good season in the Spanish club and is now the only option that Real Madrid has other than Arbeloa; who was only able to disappoint during his previous season in Real Madrid. Albiol was not even in the starting 11 of the FIFA World Cup 2010’s Spanish squad, as they had better options. Albiol is definitely the best option that Real Madrid has at the moment and his chances for playing for the team are high.
Sergio Ramos (Right Back)
He is definitely a first choice right back for Jose. Ramos was in the first team of the Spanish squad, who won the FIFA World Cup 2010. He is one of the best players in the Real Madrid squad and he is definitely going to be a part of the Spanish club. Sergio Ramos was one of the players who had an amazing season in Real Madrid. He is definitely one of the best right backs in the Spanish La Liga, perhaps in the world. The two right backs who are in his league are Maicon and Dani Alves. Alves is currently playing for the Catalan Giants Barcelona and Maicon is on “talking terms” with Real Madrid, as he is currently playing for Inter Milan and he wants to be a part of Real Madrid where his former coach is going to take Pellegrini’s place.
