Question:

Pregnancy Medicaid for Men?

It is possible for my husband to be covered under Medicaid while I am pregnant? I am four months pregnant and am receiving Medicaid thru Kentucky but I want my husband to be covered as well. I am fairly certain that we meet the income requirements since we are both full time college students but I was just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and could help us with this. Is it possible for me to just have him added to my plan? If so, why did my case worker not suggest that to me when I enrolled? Thanks!

  1. He needs to apply, based on household income.  For a household of two, the income is like $800 a month or so - varies by state.

But for adults, it's not a "group" plan - you EACH have to apply seperately.

Your caseworker probably didn't suggest it, because the vast majority of pregnant women on medicaid aren't married.  Also, because it's not a family plan, it's individual.  Also, the income limits for a pregnant woman are MUCH MUCH higher than a non-pregnant person - sometimes 4X the regular income guidelines.

  2. It aint happening. I have dealt with Kentucky Human resources for a while now. Being disabled with cancer and I CANT get medical help. They will tell you he is capable of working for insurance. About the only way is if he was the only living parent of that child and he has a medical condition.

    Edit:

Remember Kentucky is a Commonwealth, our laws differ than most states.

  3. He cannot be added to your plan but he may qualify for his own. He'll have to go to the Medicaid office and apply just like you did.

The reason your case worker didn't suggest it - maybe she didn't know he wanted it or maybe your income isn't low enough for him since the income requirements for pregnant women are more lenient.

  4. Why not. Lets put your whole college on medicaid while we are at it. I am sure the taxpayers would not mind.
