How do you get by when u are having a baby and quite simply dont have enough money?

When i go on maternity leave, my husbands wages will not cover our household bills and including my statutory maternity pay it still wont cover our bills.

I have absolutely NO BODY in a situation to help!

I never buy new clothes or anything, no luxuarys, what do i do?

  1. If you are in the UK you will be entitled to child benefit (everybody is).  You might also qualify for child tax credit, working tax credit and healthy start vouchers.

You could also qualify for Sure Start Maternity grant.

Apply for it as soon as you can (I think you have to be 29 weeks pregnant).

Below are some websites on how to claim etc..

    Good Luck!!

  2. start selling miscellaneous stuff from your house on ebay!!!

  3. Well, what I did when I had money problems and me and the baby's father weren't working at all or couldn't find work...umm I applied for Medicaid and that insurance helped pay like all my hospital bills...and if you have Medicaid insurance you automatically are eligible to get WIC and that lets you get stuff like milk, cheese, eggs, and juice and when your baby comes out that's gonna help you be able to get formula...and another good thing to get is food stamps so you can get whatever food from the grocery store...and having all that will let you guys have more money to focus on paying the household bills but I don't think you should go on maternity leave yet until you are around your 3rd trimester if its possible and try to save up as much money as you can or try to minimize everything in your house so the bills won't be that high...don't worry things will all fall into place eventually good luck

  4. Cancel your Pc contract and be more responsible

  5. Go on maternity leave as late as possible.

Cut down on bills - cheaper branded food products to cut down the shopping, consolidate loans, cut up credit cards.

Remember you may be eligible for tax credits, and child benefit when baby is born.

  6. Hi,

Have you tried speaking to some-one from the D.W.P? Have you checked to see if there is ANY help/funds you can claim? Maybe there will be something you are due?

Go to the Citizen Advice and they can guide you through it all.

I hope you get something sorted, and wish you a healthy pregnancy, have you heard of the "Family Fund?" it's a charity to help people on a low income etc,you could also try that.

    Good Luck!

  7. why don't you try something you can do at home.

how about avon? or selling things you don't want on ebay?

i did this and was quite surprised how easy it was, and that i actually made money.

buy stores own brands and fill your trolley with special offers!

perhaps your fella can take a little overtime?

and remember...It's only a bargain if you need it!

    hope this helps :)

  8. Hubby may need to get a part time job then. Or you could sell some things for quick cash.

  9. It sounds like hubby needs to pull a second job and you both need to cut expenses. Cut down on how much electricity you use by turning the AC warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter, use less water, get rid of ALL credit cards, all phones that aren't necessary for life to continue, maybe even cable, and consider cutting down on your auto insurance (instead of full coverage, minimal coverage). Amazingly that can add up to alot in savings. You may even want to have a garage sale to get rid of some things you don't need that could help you get some extra cash for the baby's stuff. Don't get name brand stuff anymore, except maybe with toilet paper,...lol and shop at consignment shops and lowclass grocery stores for your necessities. That'll save you ALOT of money if you switch from Winn-Dixie to your local down-trotted grocery store. Also look into WIC and Medicaid. I was on those and they helped alot. WIC helps pay for the absorbent amount of food you'll be eating and Medicaid pays all the medical bills and insures your child for one year after birth.

If all else fails, try pleading to the government. They spend about 1 billion dollars a month on that stupid war,... they can help you out. Good luck dear.

  10. Maybe you should look into government assistance to help out.  WIC might be an option for you, I do not know much about it though.

Also post on craigslist for hand me downs for the baby.  Im sure there are plenty of people who would give you their clothes instead of donating them to goodwill.

Also try to come up with ways to make extra money while on maternity.  Maybe child care outside of the home, for someones child, while you are caring for your own.
