  1. You don't have to get married---he could sponsor you as a conjugal partner.  In this case you would have to prove that your relationship is bona fide and explain the reasons why you have not been able to live together or get married.

If you were to get married it would make things easier but I am certainly not suggesting that you get married solely for the purpose of immigration.

Your bf will have to sponsor you into Canada.  He will have to meet the income requirements and have verifyable income and agree to provide support to you for 3 years.

As the applicant you will have to provide an immigration medical, criminal records check and applicant questionairre.

Doing all this and waiting for the acceptance can take years to complete.  It will also cost about 1800.00$cdn.

The Citizenship and Immigrations Canada website has all this information and all the applications that you will need.

  2. You would first have to apply for a Visa in order to live in Canada with your boyfriend. Sometimes this can take up to 2 years to get. You would definetly need a Visa to work in Canada. Check with the American Consulate to find out the details and rules if you were to get married and how this would change your situation.

  3. Just make a phonecall to a canadian consulate and you get all your answers - the rules change from time to time
