Pregnant And Can't Get On State Health Insurance!! What Should I Do!?

I'm so pissed off!! I have tons of medical bills stacking up and I am on no health insurance!

Because I live with my parents and am under age 21 (I'm 20 and will be til May), and I already have one son. Thankfully he's covered. But I have all these bills that are stacking up and won't be able to be paid off because by the time I get on anything it'll be past the 3 month time limit for back pay!!

I live in MN and the problem with getting my parents income is my mom and dad both have new jobs, but my dad was laid off his old job so how the h**l am I supposed to get his stop work form filled out by a company that no longer exists!?!

I can't get on anything unless I have their income!! Even tho' I'm 4 months pregnant!! This is so f***'d up!!

  1. Could you try to get on your parents health insurance and pay the difference on their bill?  Because it sounds like you got yourself into a conundrum!  You live with your parents, so they are suppporting you by paying the housing bills, right?  But if you are working then you are your own support and therefor should get health coverage available to you.  But what they do is say that if you live with ANYONE then you need to include them even if they arent paying any of the bills and are freeloading.  So it sounds like the only solution you have is to combine those two and freeload on your parents plan but pay the difference.  You are generally able to join a parents helath insurance until 25 while in school.  If your not in school then your real question should be how am i going to be self sufficient enough for myself and my kids so that i dont have this problem anymore.  You could get a job and pay for it all as well as childcare, which there are state fundings for that.  Or you could go to school until you have the baby, like math, or CNA training or SOMETHING to be eligable for your parents plan.  But you just need to think how can i change myself in order to get what i want?  Rather than what do i need to change in the government to get the things i want?

  2. Does your husband have any kind of health insurance?

  3. It's possible that it's different in your state, but where I live, the 3 months for retroactive coverage goes back from the date that you actually apply for assistance, not from the date the application is completed. If you need to show your father's income from his old job, what about a month's worth of his last paycheck stubs?

I'm sure you can ask your caseworker for an acceptable alternative to the stop work form. Your father can't be the only one in the state that has had to supply proof of income another way...

  4. please tell us why the state should carry you. Not to be rude but it isn't taxpayers responsibility to pay for your bills is it? Sorry but I really have a problem with that.

It might be a reasonable idea to get a job with health insurance to cover your future bills. Or to make an attempt to pay what you already owe, at least in increments.
