Do pizza places use pasteurized cheese? I ate papa john's pizza sticks and I'm just curious... I'm 20 weeks pregnant... but also since they cook it wouldn't that kill anything anyways?!?

  1. Pasteurization is the boiling of milk to destroy bacteria.  Pizza places use pasteurized cheese, so it is safe to eat.  And, as you say, the cheese itself is cooked (temp around 450F) so that would destroy any germs as well.

  2. Yes.

  3. Yes, the cheese should be pasteurized.

  4. Pizza is fine.  Eat what you normally eat.  Don't get paranoid.  Don't let everyone tell you that eating a certain way is "bad" for the baby. unless you are chugging coffee or shooting lines of coke, you'll be fine.

  5. all cheese foods are pasteurized because the milks enzymes get zapped during the cheese making process in mozzarella cheese

and yes 15-20 minutes in a 700 plus degree oven will handle the rest.

don't eat fresh or farmers cheese.

  6. i think ur way too paranoid and u should relax..its ok to be cautious of what u eat, but i think ur over doign it...yes they cook the cheese and that would kill any bacteria...and the cheese may be pastuerized, im almost certain it will be, but ur fine..relax and enjoy ur pregnancy, dont drive urself crazy worrying about what will go bad...try to keep a positive mind! Congrats!!!

  7. pasteurized cheese means its heated to kill off any bacteria so it should be safe to eat. I'd be more worried if it was unpasteurized b/c then it may affect ur stomach and the baby's.

  8. Cheese produced in the US is forced, by law, to be pasteurized.  Don't get yourself in a knot.

  9. i work in a pizza shop and yes ours is pasteurized, and i do believe that it is in every shop. and after going through the oven at 495 degrees and for 7mintues, that will kill anything else!!!
