Pregnant Hamster?

Well I got two female hamsters but one turned out to be a boy. They've been living together for two weeks until I realized one was a boy. Now they are seperated. She has all the signs of being pregnant. I'm 75 percent sure she is. I was just wondering if she does hav pups. I know not to touch them until 2 weeks of age and have fur, eyes opened, eating solid foods. I was wondering when i wean them, would it be alrite to keep one of the female babies with the mother? Or should I take it away, like the rest? 10 points for the best answer!!

  1. let it say with the mom when it has fur

  2. they can stay with her til they are all weaned then they have to be seperated into same s*x groups in seperate cages and they can all stay together til you get rid of them but is they are syrians the babies will have to go in a cage on there own which will cost alot hope this helped

  3. Take her to the vet asap

  4. The answer to your question depends on whether or not you have a Syrian hamster (teddy bear) or a dwarf hamster.

If you have a dwarf hamster leaving one female pup with the mother should be okay as long as their cage has ample room. Even though same s*x pairs tend to fight more then a male and female pair. Use your judgement with this one, if the mother and pup fight  a lot then you may want to seperate them, but this is only if the fighting is severe (wounds and what not) most of the time they will just box to prove dominance.

Syrian hamsters must be alone, their fights can become fatal if paired together.

*Another good thing to give pregnant hamster is bread soaked in milk!*

  5. when myn was pregnant i left her alone and she was fine and had littal babies but you MUST separate the mum from the babies and dad because the mum and dad will eat the babies and also the mum might turn out nasty sorry

  6. Hamsters wean at the age of 3 weeks old, although some wean faster, and some wean around at the age of one month.

You can keep only the female pups with the mother, and the males should be separated, ie, each male should be kept in it's own cage because they are more territorial and would kill each other for a mate.

But leave all the babies with the mum for at least a month...after that, they are ready to go on their own ways!

But it is better if each hamster is provided with its own space.

I wish you and your hamsters all the very best, and good luck with the upcoming litter!

They suck, but you're just gonna love them!

    lol

PS: I advice you to separate the daddy before the pups come, or he might eat the babies.

PPS: Bread, milk, yogurt and cheese are also good during pregnancy.

Cucumbers do great for the pups, because that helps them to get the water and not get dehydrated.
