I am 39 weeks 4 days pregnant today and nothing is going on down there. My cervix is still way up there and not thinned at all.. i am supposivly dialted to 1 cm but its been like that for 3 weeks now. I saw my doctor today and she did what they call "stripping the membranes".. will this help speed up labor? I'm huge, hot, and miserbale.. please any advice to help speed up labor would be great!!! And letting me know if stripping the membranes helped for anyone

  1. Well I drank 2 tbsp castor oil with both children of mine. Worked like a charm. Labor started within 24 hours. My sister did it also...worked the same way with her. I'm not a doctor, so I hate to advise you to try this...but I'm just letting you know that it worked for me. Didn't hurt the baby one bit, just made labor start...and since it is a laxative, it made me p**p for a while. That part was over though before labor started. I know it's miserable that far along...I feel for you. Good luck with whatever you do. Hope everything works out great for you and for your baby.

  2. Yes it will help.  The best advise my doctor gave me after she did it was to go home and have s*x like we were trying to conceive again. There is a hormone in s***n that helps to stimulate contractions!!  I was "stripped" on Tuesday, went home and "had some fun" and was heading for the hospital by 6:30 the next morning!

I know it doesn't' work for everyone but I know at that stage I was willing to take any advice.  Castor oil generally encourages diarrhea which will cause you to dehydrate causing contractions....but it's not healthy to dehydrate your body.

  3. Hi... membrane sweep starts labor in approximately 1 out of every 4 times.  It didn't work for me, but I know several people who were in labor within a few hours after having that done!  It should work within 24 hours if it is going to work.  Otherwise, don't be discouraged.  You could go from 1 cm to 4 in a matter of hours - so it could really happen any day now!  Good luck.
