I have never bred a horse.

If I have a really good barrel mare (runs 1D), and I want to breed her, lets say if I were to bred her tomorrow, up until how long could I still compete with her in barrel racing shows?

  1. after its 7 months pregnant u must get of those stepp ladders and stop riding it  the foal will come out half horse half human

  2. We have many bred mares, and we ride them up until the last month of pregnancy. I'm not sure if barrel racing would affect her performace, the foal's health. I wouldn't keep her in the shows in the later months. There shouldn't be a problem with her in the first few months though.

  3. Talk to your equine veternarian.  gestation is 11months so you can expect that it might be some time before you need to take it really easy with her.

Me - once she is with foal, I would baby her

  4. As far as racehorses are concerned a pregnant mare is allowed to continue racing untill she reaches 120 days pregnant - that is around the 4 month mark.  So I'd say that you are pretty safe to continue to ride your mare up until this point.

However, as with any welfare issues, if you are unsure talk to your vet.
