Question:

Pregnant in FL. No health insurance. What do I do?

I am 3 weeks pregnant, I've not been to doctor yet. I don't have insurance, I believe I make too much for Medicaid. What do I do? Are there other programs out there? I saw where United Healthcare and others offer plans but after their high deductible and monthly payment fees, seems really high. Will I be considered having a "pre-existing condition?" Maybe I should apply for disability? Have it in Canada? I have no idea. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you!!!

  1. I dont live in Florida but I believe you should apply for gov't help. Why? Gov't offers prenatal help to pregnant women at no cost and it's not welfare. It is a temp emergancy help for the health of citizens in need. Try it, it worked out for me and it don't interfer with any other future policies you may have in the future. The women's health assistance program actually lasts through the whole preganacy and months after for your nutrition during and after birth. I hope I was helpful

  2. pro-choice

  3. If you're both working, it's unlikely that you'll qualify for any state assistance.  You can try contacting your local state rep and asking for direction to agencies that may be able to help you get some assistance through reduced fees, but that's basically the clinic route.  Find out now about health coverage for the baby after it is born, that is a separate (and expensive) issue.

But you can't get health "insurance" now, just like you can't buy life insurance after someone dies.

  4. I would try the route of Medicaid and if they deny you ask them what you can do as far as health insurance.  Does your work just not offer it?

  5. can your child's father help?

If your job does not offer medical, it is most likely an hourly position...meaning if your dont work, you wont get paid....what are you going to do when your child is born and you are out of work for 6 weeks?

in additon to the poster above's statement, adoption is an option and most will pay all of your expenses and an adoptive family can give your child a two parent house and financial stability that you dont have right now
