My mare is in her 10 month of pregnancy.I have seen her "sit" and rub her belly on the ground. She has done this only a couple of times.Once in her 8 month and then she did it again today. What is she doing? Just scratching?

It looks kinda like this but she is more on her belly.

  1. She could just be scratching . . . is it her first foal? her skin may be irritated because of the stretching. perhaps the foal is in an uncomfy position when she does this? perhaps call ur vet just to check. the last thing she and u would want is a last minute panic froma breach birth. i would call the vet hun just to be on the safe side. but before you do just check to see she hasnt got any skin irritations.

  2. She is just rubbing her fat belly. My wife did it all the time. But you need to get prepared.

  3. She just had and itch she couldn't get to with her lip any more. And sitting down was the best way to get a good scratch.

It may have been from her skin streching, or possibly even from a fly. Who knows. But is normal. I have mares that do it every time that they are pregnant.

  4. My mare does this, I've always attributed it to stretching (the foal is growing a LOT during that time) or a belly itch.  She's had 8 foals that we know of.  I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Im or email me any time!
