Question:

Pregnant: no insurance?

i just found out that i'm pregnant. it was a surprise. i don't have insurance. what can i do? i am over qualified for medicaid, barely. my husband is a police officer. to give birth at the hospital it will cost $7180. i called maternity card but they are very expensive and my doctor already said he doesn't deal with them. does anyone have any solutions? i really need an answer. thanks!

Additional Details

just because my baby is a surprise doesn't mean it's not wanted. an abortion is never an option. it's too late to get insurance because pregnancy is a pre existing condition. i'll try medicaid again. i know i'm not an illegal alien but surely being an american citizen i should be entitled to something.

  1. I'm in the same boat as you  . I have insurance but not covered for pregnancy , So glad you did not get suckered into Maturnity Card like I did :( my Dr. and Hospital do not honor it even though MC said they did . I as well do not qualify for medicaid . Did you talk to your hospital , because if you call out patient registration they have several " Special Delivery Packages " . I am paying upfront and will save me 40% than doing a payment plan .  Believe I totally understand what you are going through my pregnancy was a surprise also , a great one though :) . Hang in there and things will work out for you :)

  2. I would go down to DES ( Dept. of Economic Security) and ask them to help you apply for health insurance. I don't know where you live but in AZ I think they will help you apply for AHCCCS coverage. http://www.azahcccs.gov/site/

Also here's a link I found other discount programs.
