Question:

Pregnant or Paranoid?

I'm taking birth control pills and I've never missed one. I'm in a committed relationship and we often have unprotected s*x. I missed my last period and it's almost time for the next one.. The only thing I can think of was when I took antibiotics for something unrelated, but we used condoms every time while on the antibiotics. If I've been using two methods of birth control, why have I missed a period? Am I just being over paranoid? Am I sick?

Other symptoms I've noticed:

More discharge than normal

Having to pee more often

  1. You should check with your Dr either way! A blood test could prove pregnancy... or maybe its just a hormonal imbalance?! Good Luck!

  2. The pill is 99.7% effective if you take it every single day without fail at about the same time. But when you took the antibiotics, they wouldn't have worked, and condoms have a higher failure rate (2% perfect use, actual use, about 11%). Go take a home pregnancy test, and if it's negative, talk to your doctor. You shouldn't be skipping your period while on birth control, it's actually a treatment for hormonal imbalances.

  3. You could possibly be pregnant...you say sometimes you have s*x without a condom?  Even pills aren't 100% effective, they are around 95-99% accurate if taken correctly.  So there's still no guarantees.

Have you taken a test?  You're basically saying you're like 3-4 weeks late, am I right?  If so, you really should be trying to figure out what is causing this delay.  Take a pregnancy test, it could very well be causing this holdup.  If the test is negative, you really should go talk to your doctor.  You could have some underlying condition like PCOS that is delaying your period.  Either way, you need to know sooner rather than later.

    Good luck.
