Premier League: Blackburn v Sunderland half time report
Blackburn 0 Sunderland 0
Blackburn captain Chris Samba was sent off in the closing moments of the first half at Ewood Park, which ended goalless.
Samba conceded possession to Sunderland’s Danny Welbeck in injury time, before receiving a straight red card for wrestling the youngster to the ground on the edge of the penalty area when the forward attempted to burst clean through.
Before the sending off, neither side had given an inch in the Lancashire rain, although Darren Bent did miss the best chance of the half when he was denied by Paul Robinson when one-on-one with the former England goalkeeper.
At the other end, Black Cats ‘keeper Simon Mignolet had to tip a fiercely inswinging Morten Gamst Pedersen free kick over the crossbar, before Nikola Kalinić headed El-Hadji Diouf’s cross narrowly wide when well placed.
